While speaking at the panel discussing on the topic “Trends in Online Networks and Social Software,” the speakers noted that social networking affects public visibility with people spending more time on the Internet than on broadcast TV. The experts also spoke about the relationship between social networking and the recruitment process of a company. They also noted that younger people post their information and images in the social networking sites without sometimes realizing the consequences of such postings or how this information would be used. Speaking at the panel, Mr. Teten identified that the TiECON East provides an excellent platform for social networking and also agreed that online networks acts as an “add” rather than replacement to face-to-face networking. Various blog sites help people create and post their identity on the Internet. Websites, such as Ziggs and LinkedIn, provide blog search engines with profiles of people that can be created and posted for free. Experts also agreed that online social networking allows quick, informal interactions and also that online networks are going mobile. Mr. Teten concluded the session saying that “The future is here, it is just not evenly distributed.”
Speakers present at the panel included Angela Biever, Managing Director, Consumer Internet sector, Intel Capital; Tim DeMello, Chairman & CEO, Ziggs Inc.; Torsten Jacobi, CEO & Director, Creative Weblogging Ltd.; John Younger, CEO and Founder, Accolo; and David Teten, CEO, Nitron Advisors.
